Celebrating our 22nd Season!

Thistle Theatre is pleased to present another year of affordable, professional puppet theatre for families and schools at three locations in the Puget Sound area. We have simplified our ticket structure to include one price for all, which makes transferring tickets easier than ever particularly when it comes to the unpredictability of life these days. Purchasing a season ticket gives you one show for free, which is a savings of $10. A season ticket is flexible to use at any of one of our three locations and at the time of your choice.

Thistle Theatre specializes in a tabletop style of Japanese puppetry called Bunraku. Puppeteers, dressed in black, operate the handcrafted puppets from behind for realistic movement. Thistle Theatre serves as a training ground for puppeteers/actors, designers, puppet builders, songwriters and playwrights. The puppets, props and scenery are designed and created by Thistle Theatre artists. Our productions are carefully crafted to have layers of action and language to please audiences of all ages.

We celebrate 22 years of triumphs consisting of performing Scheherazade with the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra in 1999 with eight puppeteers and touring with three symphonies in the Pacific Northwest made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Thistle Theatre has also performed at two National Festivals, Seattle in 1999 and Atlanta in 2012, and has received Jim Henson Foundation Seed Grants for “Frog Lake” (performed with an orchestra) and Family Grants for “Two Bad Mice” and “King of Dinosauria”. For the last two seasons Thistle Theatre has been a guest company at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, Georgia, the largest puppet center in the USA.

Main Stage Productions

This season's featured productions are approximately 45 minutes. Please allow time to visit with puppets and puppeteers after the show.

We recommend this season’s shows for 3+ to 103! Our shows are not recommended for toddlers and we charge admission for all children except for babies in arms.
Please remind your child’s school about our weekday school shows and workshops. There is a discounted school price and are booked by reservation only, no walk-up.

Please donate

We invite you to add a donation to your ticket order this season to support our effort to bring quality puppet theatre to children and families in need. Through Thistle Theatre's Children's Ticket Subsidy Fund we are able to give discounted tickets to low-income children and families at all three of our locations.

We sincerely thank 4Culture - King County Lodging Tax and our generous individual donors for their support.

On behalf of the Thistle Theatre Board, artists and puppeteers, we look forward to seeing you at a magical season of puppet theatre.
